• Q.: Is it permanent?
  A.: Yes, with a series of treatments over a period of time, electrolysis is permanent. Its permanency is recognized by physicians and by hundreds of scientific articles published in medical journals and literature. • Q.: How much does it cost?
  A.: Electrolysis in most cases is very affordable. Cost is determined by time increment, which is usually broken down into 15 minute segments. Cost per segment is as follows: $30 15 minutes $40 30 minutes $50 45 minutes $60 60 minutes
• Q.: How will my skin look after a treatment?
  A.: Electrolysis, like many minor health care procedures, may have a short healing phase. During this time, there may be some transient redness or swelling and occasionally some pinpoint scabbing. The amount of redness and slight swelling will depend on the amount of electrolysis you have in an area.
• Q.: How many treatments will it take?
  A.: Your treatment schedule will be determined by whether or not you are shaving, tweezing, waxing or not doing anything at all to the area. If the area has been tweezed or waxed, the electrologist will schedule visits more frequently (weekly or bi-weekly) until all of the hairs have been treated once, usually over a 3 month period. After that time, treatments will gradually taper off. Another important factor in the length of time it will take to be successful with electrolysis is whether the area treated can be cleared during each treatment. If the electrologist is not able to take enough time to clear the area with each treatment, the amount of treatments needed will be increased. For optimum results, adherence to the schedule of appointments determined by the electrologist is very important.
• Q.: Is electrolysis safe?
  A.: Electrolysis has a history of over 100 years of safety and effectiveness. It is important to select an electrologist who is experienced and follows the most up-to-date effective methods of sterilization guidelines. In Massachusetts, these guidelines are set up by a state board governing the practice of electrolysis.
• Q.: Is the treatment painful?
  A.: There is some discomfort associated with an electrolysis treatment, although it can vary depending on a client’s tolerance level. A definite sensation should be noticed and can be described as a slight stinging sensation. This can be greatly reduced using a topical anesthetic that is applied to the treated area 45 minutes prior to treatment. Your electrologist can provide you with the information you need to obtain an effective topical.
• Q.: Do I have to let the hair grow out before a treatment?
  A.: There has to be enough length for the electrologist to grasp the hair with forceps in order to remove it from the skin after it is treated. Once you begin treatment, you can no longer continue tweezing or waxing the area. However, cutting the hairs or in some cases shaving between visits is recommended.

  A.: An IPL acne treatment might take between 10 and 30 minutes, depending on the extent of the effected area. For optimal results, treatments should be scheduled twice a week for 4 weeks
